Agata Szymczewska

Winner of the 13th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań (2006).

For two decades, she has been a regular guest on the world’s most prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall in New York, Chicago Symphony Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Wigmore Hall in London, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Musikverein in Vienna, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the Berlin Philharmonic, Sala São Paulo, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Seoul Arts Center, and Shanghai Symphony Hall.

She has performed alongside distinguished conductors such as Seiji Ozawa, Sir Neville Marriner, Riccardo Muti, Krzysztof Penderecki, Andrey Boreyko, Osmo Vänskä, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Jacek Kasprzyk, Krzysztof Urbański, Michał Nesterowicz, Antoni Wit, and Jan Krenz.

Since 2014, she has served as first violinist of the acclaimed Karol Szymanowski Quartet, touring across four continents. As a chamber musician, she has shared the stage with artists including Krystian Zimerman, Martha Argerich, Anne-Sophie Mutter, Maxim Vengerov, Mischa Maisky, Igor Levit, and Gidon Kremer.

Her accolades include the "Polityka's Passport" (Paszport Polityki), the "Coryphaeus of Polish Music" (Koryfeusz Muzyki Polskiej), and four "Fryderyk" Awards for her discography of over a dozen albums recorded for labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Sony, Decca, Hyperion Records, and CD Accord.

She is a professor of violin at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and teaches at masterclasses worldwide, including the Morningside Music Bridge program at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.

Agata Szymczewska graduated from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover (class of Prof. Krzysztof Węgrzyn) and the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań (class of Prof. Bartosz Bryła). 

She is the Chair of the Board of the Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society for the 2023–2027 term.

She plays a 1755 Nicolò Gagliano violin, generously on loan from Anne-Sophie Mutter.
