Bartłomiej Nizioł
Bartłomiej Nizioł was born in 1974 in Szczecin. He began playing the violin at the age of five. He graduated with distinction from the Academy of Music in Poznań, studying under Prof. Jadwiga Kaliszewska, and continued his education with Prof. Pierre Amoyal at the Conservatoire de Lausanne.
He is a first-prize winner of several prestigious violin competitions, including the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań, the Eurovision Young Musicians in Brussels, the Marguerite Long–Jacques Thibaud International Violin Competition in Paris, as well as competitions in Adelaide and Pretoria. He is also a laureate of the Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition in Hannover and the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition.
For nearly four decades, he has been performing worldwide both as a soloist and chamber musician.
He has been living in Switzerland since 1995. He served as concertmaster of the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich (1997–2003) and, since 2003, has held the same position with the Opernhaus Zürich orchestra. Since 2008, he has been a professor at the Hochschule der Künste Bern.
He has served on the juries of major violin competitions, including the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, the Tadeusz Wroński International Violin Competition for Solo Violin, the Premio Paganini in Genoa, and the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition in Katowice. He also serves as Deputy Chair of the Board of the Wieniawski Society.
He is a five-time recipient of the Fryderyk Award for his recordings of works by Henryk Wieniawski, Grażyna Bacewicz, Eugène Ysaÿe, Karol Lipiński, and Karol Szymanowski. In 2015, he received the prestigious Echo Klassik award for an album recorded with the Spyros Piano Trio. His latest recording of Frank Martin's Polyptyque was honored with the renowned Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.
The artist has a discography of over 20 albums. His newest album, featuring the world premiere recording of all violin concertos by Feliks Janiewicz with the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, has recently been released.
Bartłomiej Nizioł is an honorary ambassador of Szczecin and a laureate of the Award of the Mayor of the City of Poznań.
He plays a 1727 Guarneri del Gesù violin.
