Lora Markova

Lora Markova began studying the violin at the age of 5 under Blagorodna Taneva in Sofia, later continuing her education with Kolja Blacher at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. A significant influence on her artistic development has been her collaboration with Boris Garlitsky. Since 2025, she has studied at the Basel Music Academy in the inaugural regular class of Leonidas Kavakos.

She gained international recognition after winning First Prize at the Leonid Kogan International Violin Competition in 2020 and the Tibor Varga Junior Violin Competition in Switzerland in 2021, achievements that led to solo performances with orchestras in Switzerland and Italy, as well as recitals presented by AMG "Rising Stars." In 2021, she received the special scholarship of the Leonidas Kavakos Masterclass, beginning an ongoing artistic collaboration with the renowned violinist. 

She is an internationally active violinist acclaimed for her tonal refinement, artistic maturity, and commanding stage presence. Following her 2025 performance of Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor at Stadthaus Winterthur, critic Herbert Büttiker praised her "sovereign clarity," "radiant sound," and expressive lyricism.
