YiWei Gu

At the age of 9, he was admitted to the Affiliated Primary School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Qinglin Zhu. Later, he entered the Affiliated Middle School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Professor Zheng Qing. He is currently studying at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, and his teacher is Professor Kolja Blacher.

He has achieved numerous honors in domestic and international competitions: in October 2024, he won the Third Prize and the Special Youth Musician Prize at the 2024 Max Rostal International Violin Competition. In 2022, he was awarded the First Prize at the 3rd National Youth Violin Concerto Competition in Qingdao, China. In 2019, he received the Fourth Prize at the Salzburg-Mozart International Chamber Music Competition in Tokyo, Japan. 

As an outstanding young musician, he performed a violin solo at the 38th Shanghai Spring International Music Festival in 2023. He also participated in the violin solo performance at the concert celebrating the 95th anniversary of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the 71st anniversary of its Affiliated Middle School in 2022. In the same year, after winning the First Prize in the 3rd National Youth Violin Concerto Competition, he was invited to perform a violin solo with the Qingdao Symphony Orchestra at the Qingdao People’s Hall.
