Primo Pistoni

Primo Pistoni was born in 1957 in Cremona. From 1971 to 1975 he attended international violin making school there and graduated under the guidance of Gio Batta Morassi.

He took part in several national and international violin making competitions and won a number of prestigious prizes. In 1995 he became a member of Entente Internationale des Maitres Luthiers et Archetiers d'Art. He was a jury member at several international competitions, e. g. in Paris (in 1999 and 2004), Cremona (2000) and Mittenwald (2001).

His passion is to build new instruments (violins, violas and cellos) which are esteemed in Europe, Asia and USA.

In 2001 Ruggiero Ricci, the great violin virtuoso, invited him to take part in the exceptional project – recording of a CD entitled The Legacy of Cremona, which is a kind of a tribute to violin makers he appreciates. The idea of the CD is to present different acoustic qualities of instruments made by 18 remarkable contemporary violin makers.
