PROGRAMME


Below you will find the updated programme of the 15th edition of International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition adopted by the competition organizer, Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society of Poznan, in consultation with the chairman of the jury, Maestro Maxim Vengerov.


Stage 1         

1. L. van Beethoven: one movement (Jury’s choice*) from the sonata for violin and piano, chosen and prepared by the participant.

2. H. Wieniawski: one capriccio from Op. 10   

3. One of the following compositions by H. Wieniawski:
Polonaise in D Major, Op. 4
Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 15
Scherzo-Tarantelle in G Minor, Op. 16
Fantasy on themes from Ch. Gounod’s Opera Faust, Op. 20
Polonaise in A Major, Op. 21

4. One of the following compositions:
H. W. Ernst –  Grand Caprice on theme F. Schubert’s song Der Erlkönig, Op. 26
H. W. Ernst – Variation on a theme The last rose of summer
N. Milstein – Paganiniana
K. Penderecki – La follia1
E. Ysaÿe – Third Sonata in D Minor Op. 27 Ballada, Six Sonata in E Major Op. 27

5. One of the following compositions by K. Szymanowski:
Romance in D Major, Op. 23
one part of Mythes cycle, Op. 30

*Participants will be informed as to the movement they are expected to play one day in advance.


Stage 2         

1. F. Kreisler – piece for violin and piano (maximum duration: 4 minutes)

2. One of the following compositions:

P. Tchaikovsky – Meditation
G. Fauré – Apres un reve
J. Joachim – Romanze B Major, Op. 2
J. Massenet – Meditation on the themes from the opera Thaïs
S. Rachmaninov – Vocalise, Op. 34 No. 14
H. Wieniawski – Legende, Op. 17

3. One of the following sonatas for violin and piano:

B. Bartók (1-2)
J. Brahms (1-3)
E. Elgar
G. Fauré (1-2)
C. Franck
E. Grieg (1-3)
M. Ravel
F. Schubert – Sonate in A Major, D. 574
R. Schumann (1-3)


Stage 3

1. First movement of one of the following concerti by W. A. Mozart:
G Major, KV 216
D Major, KV 218
A Major, KV 219

The choice of one of the available cadenzas (including participants' own piece) remains at the participants' discretion.

2. W. A. Mozart: first movement of Sinfonia Concertante in E flat Major KV 364

3. J. S. Bach – one movement of the sonatas and partitas** for violin solo (maximum duration 4 minutes)

**In the case of the Partita in B Minor the selected movement should be performed with the corresponding double.
